One Month to Go Until The Colour Rush for Thyroid UK

The countdown is on! One month yesterday, I will have done the Colour Rush 5k course, with a group of friends, in order to raise money for Thyroid UK.

I’m a little nervous about it as my health is very up and down at the minute, but I will complete it.  Continue reading “One Month to Go Until The Colour Rush for Thyroid UK”

Fundraising 2017 – Some Goodies From Thyroid UK

A few weeks ago, I explained how I’d decided to fundraise for Thyroid UK again this summer. Last July, I completed The Color Run and raised £437.50 including gift aid. This year, I’ve set a modest target of £100 and am being joined by four team mates, for The Fun Colour Rush, which looks very similar to The Color Run, but has a cheaper entry fee as well as being much closer to where we live.

After letting Thyroid UK know, who were very thankful and appreciative for it, they offered to send us some free Thyroid UK vests to wear over our official Colour Rush T Shirts, as well as some temporary tattoos, wristbands and trolley keys, which was really kind of them.

We’re going to look so geared-up when we hit that start line!

The Colour Rush will be a real challenge for most of the team, due to various health conditions, but we’ll be supporting each other round the 5k course, which sees participants showered in a different coloured powder at each 1k, meaning they finish looking like a rainbow with big grins on their faces!

I have used BT MyDonate over JustGiving, as they give the charities a lot more of the money raised. JustGiving take a big chunk of what’s donated.

My Fundraising For Thyroid UK 2017

I have decided to raise money for Thyroid UK again this year, a charity who aim to raise awareness of thyroid conditions and promote better diagnosis and treatment.

It is estimated that 200 million people in the world have some form of thyroid disease, including 1 in 20 people in the UK. As many as 60% are undiagnosed, and of those diagnosed, a lot are not adequately treated!

As thyroid patients, we know better than anyone what this condition does to its host, but by supporting charities such as Thyroid UK, we can fight to create change in how we’re perceived, how we’re treated and our quality of life.

I would love to reach £100 as my target.

I Filled My Thyroid UK Collection Box!

A bit of a cheerier post among all of my moany ones lately.

You might remember that I got a Thyroid UK collection box to keep in the house, for any change I or my partner have, any change off visitors or found down the sofa.. etc.

Well, it was feeling pretty heavy so I emptied and counted it. There was £9.43 in there, which isn’t bad. 🙂 I paid it in via PayPal to Thyroid UK who were very happy for the donation, and of course stated GiftAid!

They’ve said it’s OK for me to keep the box and rinse and repeat the process.

Thyroid UK do a great job. Can you find space for a collection box at home, work or in your local shop? Collection boxes not only help to raise vital funds, they also create awareness of Thyroid UK’s important work.

What Can We Do to Change How Hypothyroidism Is Perceived?

What Can We Do to Change How Hypothyroidism Is Perceived?

Isn’t that a question. I’ve made it no secret that as hypothyroid patients, we often feel put down, not listened to and belittled. So what should we do to change that? Continue reading “What Can We Do to Change How Hypothyroidism Is Perceived?”

Completing The Color Run to Raise Money for Thyroid UK

Yesterday, I completed The Color Run in Manchester for Thyroid UK

Here’s me and my other two unicorns, before the run. All dazzling white!

And here we are during and after (the colour festival part enabled us to throw colour over each other). During the run, you get coloured in this amazing powder, meaning you finish looking look a rainbow. Well, kind of.

My Color Run Pack Has Arrived!

I’m completing the Manchester Color Run in twelve days time, and it’s starting to become a bit more real.

I can’t believe how fast this year is going! I decided I wanted to do it in March, and now it’s almost here.

I wanted to raise money for Thyroid UK, a great charity, but none of the events they organise are near me, plus, The Color Run is just awesome. It’s colourful, it’s happy and you can do it at your own pace. I’ll be running and jogging as much as I can, but I suspect there will be a lot of dancing and walking too!

I’m doing it with my ever-supportive partner (who has already completed a marathon!) and best friend. The packs have arrived, pictured below.  Continue reading “My Color Run Pack Has Arrived!”

One Month to Go Until My 5k!

The countdown is on! One month today, I will be completing the Manchester Color Run 5k, with my best friend and other half, dressed as unicorns.

Yep, you heard that right!

I’m a bit nervous as to whether I’ll be able to do it, but then I remember that I’ll complete it no matter what. There’s no ifs and buts really! It’s happening.

Thyroid UK are who I am doing it for, and if you have any pennies or pounds to spare, I’d be so so grateful. Without Thyroid UK, I know I wouldn’t still be here. They’re a great charity who do an awful lot to get as many people diagnosed and treated for thyroid problems, as possible. They support treating each individual as an individual, and are all for doctors working to find the best treatment for each person. They conduct research and have been pushing for better results.
